PawConnect–Hearts Through Paws
We created this app for pet adoption because, well, it should not be difficult to discover the ideal animal friend. PawConnect makes it easy for families to find their ideal match and for shelters to display their animals. When technology is put aside, the best relationships can occasionally occur.
Project Overview
Outdated technologies were causing problems for pet shelters and making it hard to display animals. We created PawConnect as a mobile-first platform that links prospective adopters with rescue groups. Although we gained a lot of knowledge about what works and what does not throughout the successful launch of the app.
Bridging Pets with Perfect Families
It was necessary to comprehend all of the sides of the issue in order to build an adoption platform. Families wanted easier search tools, and shelters needed better ways to display their animals. Rather than merely developing a feature-rich app, we concentrated on building deep connections.
User Research
We conducted interviews with prospective adopters and shelter employees to learn about their main grievances with the current systems.
Design Process
We were able to strike a balance between the emotional component of pet adoption tales and functionality through several wireframe versions.
Development Phase
We were able to retain similar user experiences while developing for both iOS and Android thanks to React Native.
Testing Results
We made major interface changes before launch when beta testing turned up navigational problems we had not expected.
Final Launch
After six months of complex development, the app went completely live, and three of the significant shelters were added as partners.

Development Journey
Planning Phase:
Over the course of three weeks of intensive planning meetings, we laid out user flows and technological needs.
Design Work:
Before we decided on the present simple, user-friendly interface, Figma prototypes underwent several iterations.
Backend Setup:
Amazon Web Service handled complete pet picture file storage, while Node.js and MongoDB served as the main framework.
Frontend Build:
Because React Native components were constructed in a modular fashion, future feature updates and maintenance will be simpler.
Quality Testing:
Several flaws that we overlooked were discovered by beta users, especially in the areas of photo uploads and search functions.
What We Achieved
A portion of the tale is told by the statistics, but not all of it. Currently, PawConnect links thousands of prospective adopters each month with more than 15 shelters. Response times were far faster than with previous phone-based systems. More significantly, we have witnessed sincere adoptions via the site, which justifies all of the late hours.

Lessons We Learned
The value of user input exceeded our expectations. Adopters acted differently than our preliminary study indicated, and shelter workers had routines we had not taken into account. We could have avoided weeks of refactoring later if we had included flexibility in the system from the beginning.
